WELCOME
The Boomerang Australia Studies team welcomes you on our new GAY FRIENDLY site! We are the specialists in study opportunities in Australia for students, professionals and working holidaymakers.
Australia is both a traditional (very British) and vanguard country that has evolved politically and detached itself from its colonial past. Sydney is a perfect example where everybody has a right to free speech. The most blatant example is the final parade at the 2000 Olympic Games closing ceremony where, on all Australian banners appeared: the “Beach Culture” represented by an enormous tongue, the “Bush” represented by Crocodile Dundee, their passion for sports represented by the famous golfer Greg Norman, fashion represented by Elle Macpherson and the gay community represented by 62 transvestites wearing giant stilettos!! You should also know that the most respected character in Australian history is the transvestite Dame Edna!!
That’s why Boomerang Australia Studies has decided to help you share this fantastic Australian adventure safely and full of fun.

SYDNEY
A quotation caught our attention, it perfectly defines Sydney at its core: “Sydney is an oil painting constantly retouched by a tireless artist, who, in his endless exigence, tries to constantly beautify his canvas already so rich in dynamic elements.”
Sydney is the rainbow capital city of Australia and heading to be the number 1 gay tourist destination, thanks to the famous annual Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Party in March each year. It is not exaggerated to claim that Sydney is the dream city for all gay and lesbian communities: Sydney offers a large, active and respected gay community, near-to-perfect weather all year round, public recognition of anti-discrimination laws and, above all, a non-stop nightlife!! Besides this, most Sydneysiders are easy-going and welcome foreigners with great ease.
The reason for this well-being comes from their love of life. Indeed Sydneysiders enjoy having a good time and anything gives birth to rejoicing: Sydney offers a real cultural diversity and takes advantage of it while organising large multicultural events in their yearly calendar: St Patrick's Day, Chinese New Year, Vietnamese New Year, the Latin-American Festival, Bastille Day, Mardi Gras, Brazilian Carnaval...
The heart of the gay scene is Oxford Street: during the day hang around the numerous cafes-bars to look at a real colourful crowd passing by and at night, join the party in the endless trendy clubs and pubs where drag queens mix with leather boys, suburbians, party-goers, lesbians, transsexuals, bisexuals…
Inner-west Sydney also gathers an active gay centre between Newtown and Leichhardt. Don’t miss the highlight, the Imperial Hotel in Erskineville, the most famous hotel where the most reputed drag show has been on for so many years: Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
Sydney is the ideal city we want you to discover. We would like to guide you in this beautiful adventure so that you spend an unforgettable stay Down Under, be it short or long: it will allow you to be involved, not only in the Australian culture and improve your English skills at the same time, but also work and be yourself …

TESTIMONIALS
To further kill your doubts and convince you that Down under is your next destination, we have asked our gay students to comment freely on their own experience of Australia. Find below their testimonials.
"Well, how to sum up 4 years Down Under in a few lines... The sun all year round, people so friendly, the beaches, the Pacific Ocean,... Boys in cossies...
I arrived in Sydney in 2001 with the idea of staying there for 3 months but kept reporting it for up to 4 years !!… Boomerang Australia Studies permitted me to extend my stay by applying for a student visa so that I could work. And they especially were always present to assist me in times of crisis...
I will never forget this extraordinary experience and despite the distance, I still keep today very strong links with Australia."

I've met Daniel, my boyfriend, 4 years ago when I were here on holiday, in a bar on Oxford st. I was out for a drink with a very good gay friend of mine Otto, whom I met here in Australia. Otto was one of the many fantastic people I met in Sydney.
Francoise from Boomerang Australia Studies helped me to consolidate my life here in Sydney giving me directions. I had a few moments when I felt a bit lost, Boomerang gave me the possibility to find a good English college for the first 6 months of my journey and then helped me to enrol in a hairdressing course at TAFE.
I always had the passsion for hair and now after 3 years since my arrival, I can say that I'm settled in this country: I live with my boyfriend in a nice house on the beach, I work as a hairdresser in a successful hair salon in the city and I have a lot of good friends and my beautiful cat Max whom I adore.
