Australian taxes
The Australian Taxation Office or ATO is the official department looking after all types of taxes. You can find further information on their website:
www.ato.gov.au.
Taxes rates: taxe rates vary according to the amount of your wages and visa status. You have first to determine if you are resident for taxe purposes or not: according to the ATO, if you are not Australian and you want to be accepted as a resident for tax purposes, you must have lived in Australia for at least 6 months, be employed by one company and have lived at the same place during this time. If you are not a resident for tax purposes, you will be levied 50%. To sum up, all temporary visa holders such as student and sponsorship are automatically resident for tax purposes. If you are on a Working holiday visa, it varies according to the length of your employment in Australia.
